The EMGF will serve as a natural gas platform

The 22nd September 2020 was a momentous day for the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) with the formal signing and ratification of the EMGF statute. The partnership is now recognized as a regional intergovernmental organization headquartered in Cairo, Egypt.

The EMGF will serve as a platform for its member states and those countries and organizations participating as observers, in collaboration with international partners such as the European Union and the World Bank, to establish a sustainable regional gas market through regional cooperation and permanent dialogue and to support their efforts to monetize their reserves.

Tarek El Molla, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, said: “This symbolizes an era of cooperation among the founding countries of Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Egypt, in which gas can be utilized as a resource for energy, as well as a catalyst for peace in the region, and economic prosperity and wellbeing of our citizens.”
