Finland’s Gasum has partnered with Rotterdam-based shipping company Samskip that will allow the latter to bunker liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Risavika, Norway.

Samskip is the owner of two single-fuel vessels, Samskip Kvitbjorn and Samskip Kvitnos, which are LNG-powered.

Additionally, Gasum will support Samskip’s door-to-door-logistics at sea and on land.

Gasum’s LNG plant is located approximately 200m from the quayside, which allows fresh and cold LNG to be bunkered in a fast and safe manner from the plant.

Samskip CEO Kari-Pekka Laaksonen said: “Bunkering LNG in Risavika is a great asset to us and vastly improves our bunker network. We are looking forward to developing our relationship to gain further benefits from Gasum’s products and services.”

The two ships carry out liner shipping between Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Norway and operate on a regular route with predetermined schedules. The vessels feature Rolls Royce single-fuel LNG engines.

Gasum Maritime sales director Jacob Granqvist said: “Partnership with Samskip is great news for us. We are proud to be part of the bigger change in the shipping industry and to have these performant vessels taking LNG just outside Gasum office windows.”
